50 Songs That Make Me Happy

Today is my 50th birthday. To celebrate, I’ve made a special playlist – 50 songs that make me happy. These aren’t necessarily my favorite songs mind you, but songs that I like. Songs and artists that have been in constant rotation as of recent. Songs I listen to while writing, while working, and while living my life.

OK, so let’s give a few specifics. I have a couple new songs by The Cure, Sixpence None The Richer, and Chicane. There’s older songs too, such as “Hymn” by Ultravox and “Sometimes” by Erasure. I have a few covers โ€“ “Total Eclipse of the Heart” by The Dan Band, “Our Lips Are Sealed” by Fun Boy Three, and “Das Model” by Snakefinger. I lied earlier by the way, some of these songs are amongst my favorites. “Joyride” by Roxette, and “Bullet The Blue Sky” by U2. A few favorite artists as well, such as They Might Be Giants, Weird Al, and Blonde Redhead. This playlist has everything from modern pop to trance to 80s synthpop to indie rock. 50 Songs that Make Me happy is quite the journey through my musical tastes.

Find the playlist below on Apple Music, Spotify, or YouTube.

I have a tradition. Every year I make a list called the Holiday Hall of Shame. This year, it’s going to be a doozy for certain. I talk about classic Christmas songs, as well as new modern favorites, and I rake these songs over the coals. Seriously, I’m cruel. OK, ok, some songs deserve it โ€“ I’m looking at you, Christmas Shoes. Some songs, however, well, maybe I’m a little too cruel. But it still makes me happy!

By the way, if you’re interested in knowing what else I’m up to creatively, I published a blog post about what I’m currently reading and writing. Go check it out!

That’s all for today. As always, rock on, and rock steady!
