47 Deep Cuts

Folks, in a few days I turn 47 years of age. Every year on my birthday week, I make a special playlist. When I turned 45, I made a playlist featuring one song that was in the top ten for every year I was alive. The next year, it was 46 artists who changed my life. This year, my playlist is, well, 47 deep cuts. 47 songs by artists I admire (in some fashion or another) โ€“ but not necessarily songs that got a lot of buzz. So yeah, you’ll recognize most of the artists, but you may or may not know the song.

So what’s on this deep cut playlist? David Bowie warns us to never get old. Peter Gabriel (with Laurie Anderson) sing “This is the Picture.” R.E.M. screams “Let Me In.” Maybe it’s because Queen is dealing with a Dragon Attack. The Beatles, U2, The Cure, The Rolling Stones, Elvis Costello, Alice in Chains, ‘Weird” Al, Beck, X, My Bloody Valentine, Johnny Cash, Erasure, Pearl Jam, ABBA, Dead Kennedys and several more! 47 bands, 47 songs. It’s a cornucopia of music you probably don’t know!

I truly hope you enjoy this special birthday playlist, and 47 deep cuts provides you with your new favorite song.

After 47 Deep Cuts

After this playlist, we’ll be going into full-on holiday mode. I’m not sure what that looks like right now, but I am working on an article and have another planned. It’s going to be tight, ya’ll!

Back to my birthday, this is my palindrome year. I was born in ’74, and I’m turning 47! Not everyone gets to see their palindrome year, so I feel lucky. My parents were both born in 49, and they didn’t make it anywhere near 94. Heck, my Grandma, who lived to be 90, still didn’t make her palindrome year (92). So yeah, that’s something to celebrate! This is going to be my year, I can just feel it!

That’s it for now. Get ready for holiday fun! And as always, rock on and rock steady.
