Speaking of Bad Music – True Love Waits…

True love waits - the playlist showcasing the just say no songs you missed while growing up!

Yesterday, I gave you all permission to listen to bad music. Some might call this a clever way to justify my love for Kelly Clarkson’s music. Other’s might say this was not clever at all! – just an excuse….but I digress. As many of you know, I grew up listening to a lot of Christian music – a genre chock full of bad music, that we have actual categories of bad music based on themes in Christian music. One category in particular, the “true love waits” category feels ripe for a bad music playlist.

Wait – true love waits? Isn’t that a Radiohead song? Well, yes, but before Thom Yorke choked vocals aboutย  “your crazy kitten smile, true love waits was (and still is) a movement in christian churches. The movement aims itself at teens, telling them to not have sex before marriage. While, and I want to stress this, I am not necessarily against this movement, I do have to laugh at some of the horrible music that came from this movement.ย

Some of this music, mind you, comes from artists whom I fully respect. Steve Taylor makes an appearance with “Jenny,” and also in the Newsboy’s “Truth and Consequences.” Charlie Peacock has a song which shows the benefit of having a monogamous sex life. Some of these songs even show the artist’s own, personal choices. Still – the overall category of true love waits sounds ridiculous. A good portion of them use scare tactics, such as pregnancy and AIDS (even if you protection) to get teens to wait.ย

Again – this playlist does not intend to take a stand for or against the movement – so please do not read into this post too much.ย  Instead, treat this like an anthropologic study of a culture you might have, or might not have, experienced. Enjoy the bad music.

True Love waits – for the credits….

I really want to thank the 90’s CCM Recovery Facebook group,ย as they helped me compile this playlist. Really a great bunch of people. If you yourself remember CCM from the 90s and want to talk about it, even if you don’t hold the same beliefs you may have once had, you should join. It’s a lot of fun! They also suggested I use the Rick Cua Song, “Young Boy, Young Girl,” but this song is not available on Spotify. Rats!

Wow – that’s some big hair! Speaking of Facebook, did you know that more traffic to websites comes from Facebook referrals than search engines? This makes me want to shill the AudioPerfecta page all the more! What’s that? You don’t follow AudioPerfecta on Facebook? Well you should!ย  You not only get links to every article AudioPerfecta publishes, but also bonus songs not found in articles, memes, music news, and a whole lot more! You should follow us!ย
