Songs About Ancient History

Originally, this week’s playlist was just going to be about history in general. But I found the recent history songs far outweigh that of anything before that of, say, Columbus’ voyage. It became apparent to me that I had to separate my original playlist into at least two or three parts. So, right now we’re starting with Songs About Ancient History. Ok, ok, I say ancient history, but really it’s up to about the 1650s. Why? Well, just as there’s a ton of songs about the last 100 years, there’s really not much about anything before the reformation. So, while ancient history technically ends at the end of the Roman empire, I’m adding about 100 years. Sue me, I’m not a purist.

Whatever, no one comes here for ancient history lessons anyway. You come here for the music! So what’s on this week’s playlist? Songs about Mesopotamia by both The B52s and TMBG. Songs about ancient Egypt by Dio. Siouxsie and the Banshees sing about Pompeii. The Arcade Fire sings about Joan of Arc. Iron Maiden warns the indigenous populations of the new world to run before the Europeans arrived. John Lennon, Metallica, Jethro Tull, The Animals, The Decemberists, Iona, Van Morrison, and more.

Enjoy this flyby of days long past, in songs of ancient history. Make sure to read past the playlists for some exciting news!

Soings of Ancient History is just the begining!

As I said, there are going to be a couple more playlists over the next two or three months about history. It’s going to be fun! However, that’s not the big news. Folks, I’ve actually written a full draft of a brand new featured article! I plan to edit the article soon, I plan to publish it in about a week or so! There’s even going to be an accompanying playlist. So yeah, I mean business. What’s the subject? I teased it a few weeks ago, but it’s evolved even since then. I’m pretty excited to do some essay-length writing again.

I have a few more articles planned, however, we’re coming up into October. That means scary Halloween stuff. I’d like to do an article that fits the season, so if you have any ideas, I’d love to hear them. Leave a comment below!

That’s all I have for you today. As always, rock on and rock steady!
