Everyday Pop

This week’s playlist is focused on what I call Everyday Pop. What is Everyday Pop? It’s the type of music you can just put on and not think too much about. It’s the type of music you can listen to while grocery shopping or running errands or chilling at home or whatever you’re doing today. This kind of pop makes a good background to a run-of-the-mill Tuesday afternoon.

Everyday Pop includes some of my favorite pop songs. You’ll feel the warmth of The Bangles Eternal Flame, and Paula Abdul’s Cold Hearted Snake. You’ll go Head Over Heels with Tears for Fears, and Head over Feet with Alanis Morissette. We start out strong with The B-52s, and throughout the journey, we hear artists such as Erasure, Bobby Brown, Mariah Carey, Prince, Chicago, and more!

Play this mix while picking up the kids, or buying cleaning supplies at Target. Just a word of warning, if you’re dancing in the aisle, don’t use that brand new mop as a partner. Security might escort you out.

Where was the King of pop in the Everyday Pop playlist?

Yes, let’s tackle the elephant in the room. There was no Michael Jackson, the King of Pop, in this playlist. This was intentional. Look, I don’t know what MJ was guilty or not guilty of, but there is still the stigma of possible ickiness associated with his music. As much as I respect his music, and even listen to it privately, I also feel it’s for the best I don’t include his music on my playlists. There are a few possible exceptions, I think I put Thriller on a Halloween playlist. But since we don’t know, I’d rather play it safe. If you don’t agree, change my mind in the comments!

In other news, some of you might have noticed a lack of featured articles this week. As I mentioned with last week’s playlist, my father recently passed away. In all truth, I don’t have it in me to write long-form articles at this point. I’ll start that up when I do, but for now, I’ll be doing weekly playlists only. As I mentioned before, I’ll be doing a tribute in the coming weeks, featuring rockabilly. I’ll also be doing a sequel to Middle-Aged Parking Lot Music. That’s going to be a lot of fun! But I don’t have a timeline, so bear with me. Things will get back to normal sometime in the next month or so.

Until next time, as always Rock on and Rocksteady.
