Classic Rock Playlist

This Classic Rock Playlist used every guitar in this photo. Just kidding - this is just a random photo from a guitar store. I love stock photos!

Why would I give you a Classic Rock Playlist? Because yesterday I explored the question, “What is Classic Rock?” If you missed this article, my conclusion (Spoiler Alert!) was the term Classic Rock does not refer to a specific genre. Rather, Classic Rock serves more as a marketing term. Classic Rock, describes, well, whatever the person using the phrase wants it to describe. Disc jockeys and radio stations in particular shape the definition of course. My specific definition of hard rock (as a quasi DJ): rock or hard rock, written in the 1960s or 1970s (give or take a few years), and not of the punk or metal genres.

One of the first things I learned in college – don’t tell your readers, show them. So…I’ve made a Classic Rock playlist to show you, the reader, my definition of Classic Rock. When I think about Classic Rock, I think of songs like those in this playlist. I really did try to adhere to my own definition, but I may or may not swerve a little here and there. Again – I reserve that right as a quasi DJ dang it! Enough of my chatter – here’s the music! Enjoy!

More than a Classic Rock playlist (or a feeling).

Ok, I realize this playlist seems a bit cliche’d. You probably knew every song on this list. That’s just the nature of Classic Rock. It is, after all, a radio format. Still – I resist the urge to add songs like “Carry on My Wayward Son,” or “More than a Feeling.” I’m just not a fan of most bands that name themselves for cities or states. I also snub one or two artists on purpose – artists who will rename anonymous, but I feel are overrated. But I digress. Something something Jet Airliner.

Maybe next week I’ll do something a little less mainstream. I have several ideas – you just don’t know what I’ll write about from week to week. Still, YOU, yes YOU can influence my writings by letting me know what you want to hear about. Is there an album or band you want to know more about? Do you think a certain genre needs a spotlight? Maybe you feel we need a playlist about punk rock bands covering Amy Grant songs (I wish I knew a few covers like this!) Let me know what you want to know about via Facebook, Twitter, or email!ย
