    Family Guy’s Music…

NSFW Warning – this article contains offensive language. Nearly 20 years ago, the first episode of Family Guy aired. That fact alone boggles the mind. I have seen every single episode several times, which makes me wonder if perhaps I need to rethink my life. From the antics of Peter Griffin, to the, err, antics of Stewie and Brian, Family Guy really shows what society has become – a cesspool of bad jokes and rehashed pop cultural references. Alright, alright, cheap shot – there are many reasons to love Family Guy. But perhaps one of the best reasons to love Family Guy – the music! Family Guy ‘s music, appearing…

Punk Covers and Why They Rock.

A couple years ago, I started to explore an interesting sub-genre – the punk cover.  The rules of the sub-genre are quite simple – it’s got to be a song, any song, covered by a punk band.  The sub-genre has a massive amount of songs. Some punk artists will do entire albums of nothing but punk covers! While the internet has certainly spread a good amount of light on the sub-genre, this is hardly a new phenomenon. This actuality used to embarrass me, but recently, I’ve made peace with this personal fact. Rainbow Connection tells us we need to keep in touch with our imagination; the song encourages us to never give up on our dreams. As someone who dreams, I have to respect this message. I also must point out that, considering I was 4 years old when “The…

    What is Classic Rock?

What is Classic Rock? A few years back, I was listening to a classic rock playlist on Spotify. This playlist was full of bands I associate with Classic Rock – Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, Led Zeppelin, etcetera. However, there were a few surprises – Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and even U2. This irked me as I have always thought of classic rock as an era of music – specifically the hard rock of the late 60s and through the 1970s. There is a little wiggle room for this definition mind you – those bands that started in this era and continued their careers into the 80s, 90s, and beyond certainly…
